  • World Music Day

    We celebrated World Music Day on Monday 21st June. 

     

    Our music teacher, Ruth Montgomery, has put together a wonderful video of our children together with children from Blanche Nevile and James Wolfe schools sign singing “Bring me sunshine”, which is so lovely and heart-warming.

  • Science Glossary Workshop

    We had Science Glossary workshop delivered by Dr Audrey Cameron from Moray House, Edinburgh and Rachel O’Neill, Senior Lecturer in Deaf Education. It was a valuable session where we learnt the key signs for Science Glossary. Many thanks for them for their time in delivering the workshop.

  • Maths Census Day

    We have been learning about the National Census to be held on Sunday 21st March 2021. The children have been doing their own census in school all day today with different 'Let's Count' activities, and applying their Maths skills. Each class had a theme to count and analyse their data into pictograms, bar graphs and pie charts: favourite fruit;  favourite things; the local area; the school population - gender, deaf/hearing, ethnicity, religion. We'll be posting photos in the Gallery soon! Thank you to Catherine Drew for organising the day. 
  • BSL Recognition Day

    Today we celebrated 18 years since the UK government recognised British Sign Language (BSL) as an official language in our country. (18th March 2003). We enjoyed a watching a fantastic presentation by Dr Kate Rowley about the BSL marches and the campaign to get BSL recognised in the UK. We also enjoyed some fun BSL games and activities and ended the day with a BSL birthday cake! Happy Birthday BSL! Many thanks to our Deaf Instructor, Mischa Cooke, for organising the day so brilliantly!
  • Sign Language Week

    We are celebrating Sign Language Week this week and started with an assembly this morning to introduce the week. This year's theme is Sign Language For All. Check the BDA website for more information http://signlanguageweek.org.uk/ There will a different topic each day. Monday's theme was Sign Language in the home. Tuesday's theme was Sign Language at school - check out the vide on the signlanguageweek.org.uk website - Frank Barnes is featured!

    On Thursday 18th March, we will be celebrating our annual BSL Recognition Day to celebrate 18 years since our UK government recognised BSL as a language!

  • British Science Week

    We celebrated British Science Week on Friday 12th March, with a demonstration of Science experiments performed via Zoom by Mr Derek Rodger from Heathlands School, and Dr Audrey Cameron from Moray House, Edinburgh. Cerf and Maginn classes loved learning about different types of energy and how these change. Perhaps a few budding future Deaf scientists in the making! Thank you to Heathlands for inviting us. 
  • School reopening

    We are finally reopening school to all pupils on Monday 8th March from 8.45am. We look forward to having everyone back in school again after the long lockdown. Letters have gone home to parents/carers and transport services have been informed. See you all soon! 
  • New website launch

    Our brand new-look website was launched on Wednesday 24th February 2021 on Zoom with staff and governors present. The headteacher thanked the staff involved in updating and creating new content for the new website, and launched the site with a ribbon cutting and a glass of bubbly! Enjoy browsing our new website and do send us any comments and feedback to let us know what you think and to make improvements.
