Disclosure Barring Service

In order to ensure that all of the staff who work in Frank Barnes School are suitable to do so and are not barred from working with children, the school always applies to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for police checks and other barred list information as part of the recruitment process.

All job advertisements and application forms clearly state that all applicants for posts at the school are expected to agree to undergo DBS and other checks as part of safer recruitment practices.

Staff and governors on interview panels are trained in safeguarding interviewing techniques and have undertaken safer recruitment training offered through the Camden Safeguarding Children Board or another accredited training provider.

Full DBS checks are also carried out on unpaid volunteers who regularly work at the school and have opportunities to be in contact with our children.

Other professionals and contractors who have opportunities for regular contact with our children are also required to have an enhanced DBS check (but not barred list checks).

The school ensures that DBS information is recorded on the school’s single central record and that all DBS checks carried out on staff are renewed after 3 years of the original DBS disclosure.
