BSL Level 1 and BSL Level 3 Teacher

Job Title:              BSL teacher – Level 1 and/or Level 3      

Salary:                  Level 1: £30/hr; Level 3: £36/hour

Hours:                  Level 1: 2 hours per week teaching + 30 mins planning & preparation

                              Level 3: 3 hours per week + 45 mins planning & preparation

Contract:             Sessional

Start date:          September 2025 (days/evening times negotiable)

The role: 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed person to teach BSL lessons with the following knowledge, skills and experience:

 

  • Excellent BSL skills (minimum BSL Level 3)
  • Be a native BSL user
  • Experience working in educational settings
  • Communicating with people from different backgrounds
  • Excellent networks within the Deaf community
  • Experience in teaching/assessing/delivering BSL courses or curriculum to adults
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Carrying out assessments of BSL learning and progression
  • Planning and delivery of BSL lessons
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding practice

 

We are committed to safeguarding children and any appointment is subject to satisfactory checks and references. The position will require an Enhanced DBS check including a barred list check. The post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (as amended in 2013 & 2020). This means that applicants are not required to disclose details of any youth cautions or ‘protected’ criminal convictions, adult cautions or bind-overs they may have incurred. The school will carry out an online search on applicants as part of due diligence checks in order to identify any historical incidents that may need to be addressed during the interview.
