BSL In House Interpreter
Job Title: BSL Interpreter/Trainee Interpreter (in-house)
Salary: SO1 £38,571 (22-25) pro-rata: term time only – £32,674
Hours: 34 hrs per week (Mon-Fri)
Contract: Permanent, to start June 2025

The role:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed person with the following skills and experience:
- Excellent BSL and English skills (BSL NVQ Level 6 / English GCSE C or equivalent)
- Experience of working as an interpreter/trainee interpreter in a variety of settings.
- Experience of working with a wide range of Deaf and hearing people.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with Deaf and hearing people.
- Ability to interpret for a range of professionals working with Deaf children.
- Experience of working with Deaf children.
- Experience of working within an educational setting.
- Ability to co-ordinate an efficient interpreting service for the school.
We are committed to safeguarding children and any appointment is subject to satisfactory checks and references. The position will require an Enhanced DBS check including a barred list check. The post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (as amended in 2013 & 2020). This means that applicants are not required to disclose details of any youth cautions or ‘protected’ criminal convictions, adult cautions or bind-overs they may have incurred. The school will carry out an online search on applicants as part of due diligence checks in order to identify any historical incidents that may need to be addressed during the interview.
