Teaching Toolkit and Resource Pack:
Raising Deaf Children’s Achievements in Literacy
The literacy toolkit and resource pack supports teachers in units and schools for the Deaf with the teaching and learning of written English. It has been developed through classroom practice, by Teachers of the Deaf, working in collaboration with Speech and Language Therapists and Deaf Instructors. Although it was developed within a sign bilingual setting, where the status, role and contribution of Deaf people and British Sign Language (BSL) is central to the educational approach, the resources are appropriate for all deaf children and for children where English is an additional language.
