Job Title:              BSL Interpreter/Trainee Interpreter (in-house)

Salary:                  SO1 £30,879 (22-25) pro-rata: term time only – £27,232                                               

Hours:                  34 hrs per week

Contract:             Permanent

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed person with the following skills and experience:

  • Excellent BSL and English skills (BSL NVQ Level 6 / English GCSE C or equivalent)
  • Experience of working as an interpreter/trainee interpreter in a variety of settings with a variety of users.
  • Experience of working with a wide range of Deaf and hearing people.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with Deaf and hearing people/pupils.
  • Ability to interpret for a range of professionals working with Deaf children.
  • Experience of working with deaf children.
  • Experience of working within an educational setting.
  • Ability to co-ordinate an efficient interpreting service for the school.

Job Title:              BSL teacher for Level 1 course                  

Salary:                  £25.00 p/hr

Hours:                  part-time, negotiable, term time only

Contract:             Sessional (to start September 2019)

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed person with the following skills and experience:

  • excellent BSL skills (minimum BSL Level 3)
  • to be a native BSL user
  • understanding of the learning needs of mainstream children and young people
  • experience of working in educational settings
  • excellent networks within the Deaf community
  • experience of teaching/assessing/delivering BSL courses to children and/or adults
  • excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • communicating with children and adults from different backgrounds
  • carrying out assessments of pupils’ BSL learning and progression
  • planning and delivery of BSL lessons

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated EYFS or KS1/2 teacher to join our innovative and exciting sign bilingual school starting in September 2019.

We would welcome applications from teachers with mainstream experience and qualified Teachers of the Deaf or Newly Qualified Teachers who have the following:

  • Excellent teaching & class management skills
  • Positive view of deaf children
  • Good sign language skills (minimum BSL Level 3)
  • Experience of curriculum management
  • Secure knowledge of safeguarding procedures

We are committed to developing our sign bilingual practice and have high expectations of both pupils and staff.  We employ deaf and hearing people in partnership to raise the achievement and outcomes of Deaf children.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

FOFB (Friends of Frank Barnes) is the charitable arm of Frank Barnes School for Deaf children.

We are looking for fun and enthusiastic individuals who would be interested in joining our team of parents, staff and members of the community from a minimum of a year to provide a valuable contribution to our fundraising efforts.

We would only expect you to volunteer your time for one meeting every 6 – 10 weeks and possibly any fundraising activities or events we organise. Some experience would be useful but this is not essential. We only ask that you have a passion for raising money for Deaf children living in London.
