Stay And Play
Frank Barnes School’s nursery run a weekly Stay and Play session led by the Senior Early Years Educator and the Lead Speech and Language Therapist. The sessions are held on a Wednesday morning from 10.00am until 11.45am. (not on the first and last week of term – Term dates can be found here).
Our Stay and Play aims to give families of deaf children the opportunity to meet other families of deaf children. This can be a vital support network for them and can lead to positive friendships for both the parents and children.
We are an inclusive setting and provide a weekly two hour Stay and Play for all deaf children and their siblings, both deaf and hearing. We believe that every child has the right to play and we are committed to promoting the importance of play in everything we do. During the Stay and Play session we do a BSL story, a focus activity (usually something simple like a creative activity) and a SALT led Music Session.
We recognise that each child is unique and that providing opportunities for them to interact with other children and adults in a positive way is paramount in helping them to feel safe and secure.
We use a bi-lingual approach to language and communication with staff using sign and spoken language within the setting.
